Membership
If you’re new to Christ Church Queensferry or exploring what it means to belong here, this page will walk you through what membership is and how to pursue it.
Following Jesus means belonging to His people
The New Testament assumes that every Christian will be part of a local church. That’s because the local church is at the heart of God’s plan to save and shape His people through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Becoming a member of Christ Church Queensferry is one of the most practical ways to live out the Christian life. Membership gives you the opportunity to build deeper relationships, to care for and be cared for, to forgive and be forgiven, and to serve alongside others as we follow Jesus together.
Our Membership Process
1. Connect Group
If you’re exploring membership, our Connect Group is the best place to begin.
Over five relaxed sessions, we walk through:
-
The opening chapters of Colossians
-
our vision and values
-
our statement of faith
-
our church covenant
-
what life together looks like at Christ Church Queensferry
It’s a friendly, conversational environment with others who are thinking about membership too. There’s no pressure to take things further—Connect Group is simply a chance to get to know us and ask questions.
We usually run Connect Group two or three times a year.
2. Membership Application
After completing Connect Group, those who want to continue exploring membership can request an application form from the church office. You can contact the office here.
If you’re transferring from another church, we normally expect you to have left your previous church in good standing and to have attended Christ Church Queensferry for 3–6 months before applying.
3. Membership Interview
Once we receive your application, we’ll arrange a time for you to meet with a couple of our elders. It’s not intimidating—just ask any of our new members! It’s simply a conversation where we get to know you better and hear how you came to follow Jesus.
4. Church Affirmation
After the interview, the elders make a recommendation to the congregation, asking the church family to affirm your membership. This matters because membership is a mutual commitment: you’re committing to love, serve, and care for this church, and the church is committing to do the same for you.
We normally welcome new members publicly when we gather to take the Lord’s Supper.
Membership FAQ
Do I need to be baptised before becoming a member?
Yes. As a Baptist church, we believe the Bible teaches that baptism as a believer is the normal and necessary step before joining a local church. If you hold a convinced paedo‑baptist position, we’re very happy to recommend nearby churches that share that conviction and would be a better fit for you theologically.
What if I’m not sure I’m ready for membership?
That’s completely fine. There’s no pressure at all. This is one reason we encourage people to spend 3–6 months with us before applying — it gives you time to get to know our church family, see how we live out our faith together, and decide at your own pace whether membership is the right next step.
What if I’ve never been a member of a church before?
You’re not alone — other people have joined us having never been members anywhere before. Membership isn’t about jumping through hoops; it’s about stepping into the joy and responsibility of belonging to a church family. Our Connect Group is the perfect place to start. It’s relaxed, informative, and there’s no expectation to take things further unless you want to.
If you’re considering membership or simply want to find out more, we’d love to talk with you. Speak to an elder on Sunday or get in touch through our contact form.
